Herb Alpert talks Taylor Swift, Jerry Moss, Prince and more ahead of Playhouse Square performance

CLEVELAND, Ohio — It’s hard not to be in awe of Herb Alpert.

Dude is 88, and has been writing songs since the late 1950s and putting out records of his own since 1960. He began his own hit parade with “The Lonely Bull” in 1962 and also formed a recording company, A&M Records, with the recently deceased (Aug. 15) Jerry Moss. He’s sold more than 74 million records worldwide with his Tijuana Brass and on his own, has won eight Grammy Awards and a Tony, was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2006 along with Moss and received a National Medal of the Arts in 2013. His record of having four albums simultaneously in the Billboard Top 10 back in 1966 was recently matched by none other than Taylor Swift.
